What to Expect as a New Chiropractic Patient
Welcome! Thank you for choosing us for your wellness needs. As a clinic and family we strive to offer patients tailored quality care with upfront prices they can afford. We want to work WITH patients as they continue on their goal towards optimal health and wellness. If at any any point you have questions, concerns or suggestions please feel free to drop us an email at OrrChiro@gmail.com. We take you and your family’s care seriously and are always looking for ways to enhance your experience.
So what can you expect? First patient visits are about 30 minutes long and often include a New Patient Exam with Dr. Orr, an adjustment and muscle relaxation. Follow-up visits are shorter and usually take 15 minutes or less.
1. Scheduling: We want scheduling to be easy. That’s why we offer online scheduling, in-office scheduling or you can always schedule via phone (234) 334-7194 or email (OrrChiro@gmail.com). Once scheduled you’ll receive reminders via text and email about your upcoming appointment.
2. New Patient Paperwork: New patient paperwork can be found on the “Patient” tab under forms. We ask that prior to your first visit you print and complete the New Patient paperwork and bring it with you. No worries if you forget it. We’ll also have it on a clipboard at the desk for you to complete.
3. In the Office Chiropractic: Dr. Orr will welcome you to the clinic and you’ll head back to his office where he’ll go over your new patient paperwork and talk through what brought you in (pain, restricted movement or wellness goals). This will then be followed by a physical exam. Dr. Orr will have you lay face down on the adjusting table and will assess. He’ll be looking for restrictions in your spine, muscle tightness, and so on looking for the root cause of the problem.
Do we do x-rays on all patients? All x-rays expose patients to radiation. While some lifetime radiation exposure is okay, we have made the choice to only do x-rays when warranted. Some examples of times we’ve had x-rays done are: significant trauma, patient isn’t responding to treatment or if red flags are noted during the exam. We evaluate each patient using orthopedic tests, range of motion tests, posture assessment and palpation findings. If examine findings determine that x-rays are needed we will send out for x-rays where the x-rays will then be read by a board certified radiologist who will report their findings as well as be read by Dr. Orr.
4. First Visit Treatment: Do we do treatments the first visit? YES!!! People often come to us in pain. We wouldn’t let our family member leave without getting relief so why would we let you? The doctor will assess you, discuss his findings with you and then make a recommendation as far as a course of action. You’ll then be adjusted if warranted and he’ll make recommendations on best muscle relaxation technique to compliment the adjustment.
5. Setting up Next Appointment: We don’t hard sell people on long drawn-out treatment plans. We value chiropractic and the wellness it provides for our family, friends and patients. We believe you are in charge of your health and we are here to provide you with information to help you reach your on going health goals. We will make recommendations for your next visit and let you know why. We have some people that come twice a week initially because they were in a car accident or in extreme pain and we have others that are in their wellness stage and come just once a month to maintain their range of motion and pain-free life. Everyone is different. We’ll work with you to determine what would work best.
6. Follow-up Appointments: Your next appointments will generally be shorter usually around 15 minutes. The doctor will ask how you’re feeling that day and evaluate you quickly again. Some doctors do general adjustments each time, but Dr. Orr evaluates you EACH VISIT and tailors each treatment to his findings each visit.
We look forward to serving you!
